Ravindra B. Bapat

Professor Ravindra B. Bapat obtained his M.Stat. at the Indian Statistical Institute, New Delhi and Ph.D. at the University of Illinois at Chicago. After serving for two years at the University of Mumbai he joined the Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi from where he superannuated in 2019. At present he is INSA Senior Scientist at the same institute.

The main areas of research interests of Dr. Bapat are in combinatorial matrix theory and generalized inverses. He has published more than 160 research papers and has written books on Linear Algebra, published by Hindustan Book Agency, Springer and Cambridge University Press. He has also written a book on Mathematics for the general reader, in Marathi.

Dr. Bapat has been on the editorial boards of Linear and Multilinear Algebra, Electronic Journal of Linear Algebra and Kerala Mathematical Association Bulletin. He has been elected Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences and the Indian National Science Academy.

He was a recipient of the J.C. Bose Fellowship during 2009-2018. Dr. Bapat was elected president of the Indian Mathematical Society during 2007-2008.
