Shibani Bose

Shibani Bose is an independent researcher and freelance editor, and has taught at the University of St. Thomas, Minnesota, USA and earlier at Miranda House, University of Delhi. She has been a visiting scholar in the Department of History, University of Minnesota, USA and also in the Department of History at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, USA. She has also worked as an Associate Editor at Primus Books, Delhi and as a research scholar for The Alkazi Foundation for the Arts, New Delhi. Shibani graduated with an Honours in History from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, and went on to earn her MA, MPhil, and PhD from the Department of History, University of Delhi. Having specialised in ancient Indian history, her research interests include archaeology, animal studies, human-animal interactions, and environmental history.

Her publications include chapters in edited volumes as well as a monograph on The Story of India’s Unicorns (Marg, 2018), which she co-authored with Divyabhanusinh and Asok Kumar Das. Along with presenting her work widely on national as well as international platforms, she has also authored Mega Mammals in Ancient India: Elephants, Tigers, and Rhinos (Oxford University Press, 2020). Shibani joined Ashoka University as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in 2020.
