This course combines a study of the major theories and concepts in international security and strategic studies with an empirical analysis of contemporary security issues. Starting with theories of power in international politics, the course will examine ideas of grand strategy, strategic coercion, military power (continental, maritime and air), nuclear strategy, insurgency and terrorism, and frontier technologies (space, cyber and artificial intelligence). The course will also focus on the institutional dimensions of strategy, including civil-military relations and intelligence analysis.
