Bikram Phookun

Professor of Physics, Ashoka University

Bikram Phookun received a PhD in astronomy from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1993, an MSc in physics from the University of Delhi in 1987, and a BSc (hons) in physics from St Stephen’s College. He was a visiting fellow at the National Centre for Radio Astrophysics at Pune from 1993 to 1996. In 1996 he joined the Physics Department of St Stephen’s College, Delhi, and was on its faculty for twenty-five years. He was a visiting scientist at the Raman Research Institute, Bengaluru, for a year in 1999-2000, and a Professor at Ashoka University for two years between 2017 and 2019. He, along with Prof Sabyasachi Bhattacharya, designed and set up the physics programme at Ashoka.
