Sayan Chaudhuri

Writing Faculty, Critical Writing Programme, Young India Fellowship

Course: Education, Literacy and Justice

Sayan Chaudhuri has been teaching at the YIF Critical Writing programme since 2016. His course enquires into the relationship between education and socio-economic justice, and specifically deliberates on how the project of language learning can be oriented towards the imperative of producing egalitarian arrangements in society.

He is currently pursuing a PhD in the Centre for English Studies at JNU. His research work studies the framing of English Studies in post-liberalization India, with particular emphasis on how social and pedagogic practices negotiate with institutional codifications of the discipline. He hopes to use his research to develop critical literacy resources for students, educators, and activists. Sayan has also written and directed plays and short films, performed in concerts, and strongly believes in the use of the creative and performing arts as essential components of the teaching-learning process.
