Alumni Covid Initiatives

The second wave of the pandemic had a devastating impact across the country. As the healthcare system struggled to cope, a team of over 100+ volunteers from the Ashoka alumni community volunteered time and effort to create a website and a dedicated WhatsApp-only helpline to provide help to those in need. Members worked on multiple requests for verified leads – whether for prescribed medicines, oxygen cylinders, hospital beds, kits, or food for patients. Over 600 requests from across 15 cities were resolved through the helpline. Information and resources came largely from within the Ashoka community and its networks.

The initiative was led by Antara Choudhury (YIF 2015). His efforts were aided by Akashmegh Sharma (UG 2017), Anurit Kanti (YIF 2015), Mridula Sridhar (YIF 2018), Nishant Singh (YIF 2016), and Yash Joshi (UG 2017). It was also covered by the Indian Express in May 2021.

Mumbai meet-up

After two years of seeing people through laptop screens and zoom calls, the ARO finally had a chance to meet and catch up with our alums IRL. In September, Pro-VC Eshwara Venkat and Manager of ARO, Akriti Asthana met with Alumni from the Bombay chapter. While Venkat gave them University updates about new departments and campus among other things, Alumni also talked about how their lives after Ashoka has been and what shapes the Ashoka Alumni Legacy. Across two days, 26 alumni met and talked with the ARO team and pledged their commitment to giving back to Ashoka by way of Alumni Scholarships. On the first day, Kshiti Gala from YIF 2013 and her mother Asha Gala graciously hosted alumni at their home. A few Alumni from the early batches of the YIF also met the next day at Jamjar cafe to continue the conversation. As our alumni grow older and stronger in number, it is heartening to see their bond with Ashoka also grow stronger. The Alumni Relations Office looks forward to hosting many more chapter events in various cities in the coming months.

Ashoka Run 2021
Alumni Run is an annual event organized by Ashoka Alumni Assembly. The Run is designed to raise funds for alumni-sponsored scholarships. Ashoka alumni across India and the world participate in the event as runners or cyclists, and the community is encouraged to sponsor the participants. By participating in the event, you will be volunteering to be an ambassador for raising funds for an Ashokan scholarship.

The funds raised will be used to provide need-based scholarships to Ashoka students. Annually, the AAA aims to raise INR 10 Lakhs as part of this initiative.

If you are an Alumni Entrepreneur or a founder of a company and would like to sponsor the run, please reach out to the Ashoka Alumni council.

Alumni Day 2021

The first ever Ashoka Alumni Day was organised on the 10th of January 2021. Though the Alumni Weekender had been shelved for the foreseeable future due to the pandemic, it did not dampen the Ashokan spirit. Hosting the event online made it possible for alums across the world to hear stories from their peers, professors and other stakeholders and come together to celebrate the big and small joys of the Ashoka community.
