Ashoka Scholars Programme in Computer Science

Ashoka University offers a year-long Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Studies and Research (DipASR) to students who have completed the three-year Bachelor’s Programme, during which students can take a wide range of elective options across a variety of subjects, as well as gain valuable research experience in specific disciplines. Students must complete 32 credits to graduate from the ASP and may choose to complete an advanced major in a particular discipline or may choose to study subjects across disciplines.

  • Requirements

    To graduate with a Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Studies and Research (DipASR) in Computer Science at Ashoka University, students must accumulate 32 credit points at the end of one year. The course divisions and credit points requirement for a DipASR in Computer Science are as follows,

    1. A minimum of 32 credit points are required.
    2. Of these 32 credits, a minimum of 16 credits must come from Computer Science courses. 3. Of these 16 credits, 4 credits must come from CS498: Capstone Project.

    Some additional notes on the Capstone Project and the Capstone Thesis:
    CS498: Capstone Project [4 Credits]: A Capstone Project is done under the guidance of a faculty member and is aimed at encouraging a student to solve a complex problem. A
    Capstone Project is largely implementation focused.
    CS499: Capstone Thesis [8 Credits]: A Capstone Thesis is not mandatory. Enrollment
    in Capstone Thesis requires the approval of a faculty member who will take into account one’s performance in CS498 along with other aspects (including what is being proposed). A Capstone Thesis is largely research focused.

All undergraduates graduating with Bachelor’s Degrees at the end of their third year, or who have completed by that time at least academic 92 credits of their degree programme, are eligible for admission into the Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Studies and Research programme, also known as the Ashoka Scholars Programme (ASP).

Coming from a non-science background in high school, CS at Ashoka allowed me to explore the field without any hindrances. Being a small department, the relations students share with the professors extends beyond the classroom. The curriculum includes intensive core subjects and a wide range of electives which prepares us for future studies and research. There are various opportunities, like working as a Teaching Assistant or Research Assistant, for students to expand their knowledge and skillset during their time here. In my four years at Ashoka, I TA’ed for four semesters and worked on a few projects with Prof Jhawar, Prof Kothari, and Prof Gupta.
